Homemade Simple Elderberry Syrup to Boost Immunity

Equipment

  • 1 large mason jar with a lid

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups filtered water
  • 1 cup organic dried elderberries
  • 2 organic cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, peeled and chopped into smaller pieces
  • ½ cup frozen or fresh organic blueberries
  • 1-2 tablespoons raw honey You can omit this if you're looking for sugar-free

Instructions

  • Throw all of the ingredients into a pot on the stove over high heat. Bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, turn the heat to low and allow the berries to simmer for 15 minutes uncovered.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool for about 30 minutes.
  • Transfer and strain the mixture into a large mason jar.
  • Add in the honey. Add the lid and give it all a good shake.
  • Allow the liquid to come to room temperature.
  • Store it in the fridge.

Notes

This can last in an airtight glass jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
I like to take one tablespoon a day in the morning.  
This should be okay for ages 5 and older. I like to add it to our morning smoothie.
