Equipment

  • 1 half cookie sheet
  • 1 medium bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 bag frozen Jasmine Rice
  • 3 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  • Microwave your Jasmine rice according to the package directions. After sitting for a few minutes, carefully cut open the bag and transfer the rice to a medium bowl to continue fully cooling.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degree's Fahrenheit. Line a half cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • In the bowl of rice, combine soy sauce, avocado oil, toasted sesame oil, smoked paprika, chili powder, and crushed red pepper. Mix well to coat every grain with flavor.
  • Spread the seasoned rice evenly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet by pressing it with a spatula.
  • Place the pan into the oven and cook for 20 minutes. Remove the pan, give it a toss, flatten it back into one layer and cook another 15 minutes.
*For crispier rice, leave in another few minutes. Keep an eye on it so the rice doesn't burn.
  • Allow the rice to cool for 5 minutes and then carefully pick up the parchment paper and place the rice onto a cutting board to continue cooling. Make sure to fully cool the rice which should take about 15-20 minutes. Then, enjoy!

Notes

Storage:
For the best texture, allow the crispy rice to cool completely before storing it in an airtight container. It will keep at room temperature for up to 2 days. I don't recommend refrigerating it, as the extra moisture can cause the rice to lose its crispness. If needed, you can quickly re-crisp it in a dry skillet or warm oven before serving.
Tips and Modifications:
Enjoy right away. Crispy rice is at its crunchiest shortly after baking. Leftovers will gradually soften as they sit.
Want extra crisp? Broil the rice for the last 2–3 minutes of cooking, keeping a close eye on it to prevent burning.
Let the rice cool completely. Cooling the rice before baking helps it hold its shape and develop a crispier texture.
Don't overcrowd the pan. Spread the rice into an even layer so the hot air can circulate around each piece. Overcrowding can lead to softer rice.
Use leftover rice. Day-old rice works wonderfully because it contains less moisture and tends to crisp up more easily.
Make it spicy. Add extra crushed red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha for more heat. For a milder version, simply omit the red pepper flakes.
Switch up the seasonings. Try garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Everything Bagel seasoning, or a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a fun flavor twist.
Meal prep hack. Double the recipe and use a full-size sheet pan to make a larger batch for salads, grain bowls, and wraps throughout the week.
Try different rice varieties. Jasmine rice is my favorite, but basmati, brown rice, and white rice all work well in this recipe.
Refresh leftovers. If your crispy rice loses some crunch, pop it back into the oven or air fryer for a few minutes to bring it back to life.
