What are No-Bake Protein Balls?

Protein balls became the most popular healthy recipe of all time about a decade ago. They are known for their natural sweetness and are light on the waistline. They usually consist of nut butter, natural sweetener, like honey or maple syrup, and unprocessed flour like oat flour.

Edible cookie dough became a reality years ago, too. You have to admit that since you were a child, sneaking a little pinch of cookie dough while mom was making cookies was the best part of your day. Some determined sweets lover turned genius got smart and discovered that you could make and eat cookie dough without the risk of salmonella.

What’s the Buzz All About?

My Vegan Cookie Dough Protein Balls are a fan favorite. I keep them stocked in our fridge as a staple for our family. They are that good!

What is in These Vegan Cookie Dough Protein Balls?

With simple and natural ingredients, you won’t feel bad having a second serving. Here are the ingredients:

Oat flour-Did you know that you can make oat flour with old-fashioned oats? Simply place the oats in a blender with a lid, and process until flour forms. Easy peasy!

Vanilla protein powder-Use your favorite protein powder. I really enjoy Truvani which has clean and just a few simple ingredients. I would not recommend any other flavor for this recipe.

Cashew butter-Cashew butter has the perfect cookie dough flavor which is why I highly recommend not substituting. However, if you have an allergy, you can also swap it for sunflower butter. I have also made these with almond butter which works.

Maple syrup-Use pure maple syrup. Honey will do the trick, too, but maple syrup is recommended.

Vanilla extract-Use pure vanilla extract and no artificially flavored varieties.

Non-dairy milk-Use your favorite plant-based milk. I use a blend of cashew, oat, and coconut.

Chocolate chips-I like to use dairy-free and monk fruit-sweetened varieties!

Sprinkles-These are optional but highly recommended. There’s just something fun about eating a dessert with sprinkles, right?

Tips + Modifications

You can certainly use almond butter or sunflower butter instead of cashew butter. However, I prefer cashew butter because it gives a nice cookie dough texture and flavor.

You can use honey instead of maple syrup if needed.

When you use the cookie scoop to make these balls, make sure to press down on the dough, in the cookie scoop, to pack the dough into a firm ball. If not, they can become crumbly.

Mini chocolate chips are perfect for this recipe if you can get a hold of them.

I like to use natural sprinkles without artificial color dyes.

How to Store these Balls

These protein balls should be stored in the fridge. I have never tried storing them in the freezer but I bet that would work! Whatever you do, don’t leave them out. Keep them cold. They should last about 8 days in the fridge.
